Remembering Me

She didn’t know where she was when she found herself Standing
in the doorway of the convenience store
She felt confused and as a matter of fact she said
“I don’t know where I’m at, and I can’t take it anymore”

She was forgetting everything she knew
But grandpa said, here’s what I’m gonna do

He said “I promised I’d take care of you,
and no other words have ever been so true”
And her mind it slipped away

She said “What if I forget who you are, my dear?
I feel so lost, please get me out of here”
And he would cry and then he’d say,
“I promised I’d take care of you,
and that’s exactly what I’m gonna do.

And don’t you worry, honey bee,
I’ll remember you, remembering me.”

Mom and dad gave us everything they possibly could
until the day we laid dad in the ground
And when he left, it’s like she went too
she lost her way, and her memory too, but we helped her every day.
But bring up dad, and watch her shine,
She’d tell the story every time, of when he’d say

“I promise to take care of you, no other words have ever been so true.”
And a smile lit up her face. Then she’d say
“What if I forget you all, my dear?
I really wish your dad was here.”
And we would cry and then we’d say,
“Mom I’m taking care of you,
and that’s something I will always do.
Don’t you worry, let it be
and I’ll remember you, remembering me.”

Forget the heartache of the past
Forget bad memories, they don’t need to last
Forget the sad news that you’ve heard
Forget the struggles, that you never deserved

I promise to take care of you,
no other words have ever been so true,
let your worries slip away.
